Food Force video game
April 2005
“”
Brief
Create a CD-Rom video game to educate children about the problem of global hunger and how the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) fights hunger.
Solution
Conceived as a CD-Rom, but released as a free internet download/installable game to maximise distribution, Food Force makes the difficult subjects of hunger and poverty accessible to children and teachers. Players join a WFP team to experience the steps of solving a hunger crisis ? from emergency to long-term development. 3D-rendered characters, six missions and educational videos bring the subject to life, ensuring children learn whilst playing.
The game invites the player to find out more on the dedicated website. Food-Force.com moves the user from game content to the reality” section (WFP’s work in the real world), to *how to help (encouraging children to take action) and teachers, with specially developed lesson plans and tools for using Food Force at school.
Results
1.8 million game downloads in the first 4 months, millions of visitors to the educational website, recommendations from teaching websites and the No.1 Action & Adventure Game Download at Apple.com in April/May 2005.
WFP?s message is getting through!
